May 17th-24th, 2010 Program:

My wife and I, along with four ladies from our church in Iquitos, traveled for eight days and had a program in the villages of San Jose, Tangarana, Global, Santa Rita, Santa Rosa, Renacienre, and San Juan.  We had another successful time for the glory of God.  My wife Elvira preached for the women of the villages and prayed for each of them.  They were very happy because they had been praying to God for a time of fellowship like we had.  We also worked with the children in every village and were able to provide food as well.  Finally, we travled to Nauta where we finished our program and returned home shortly after to begin planning our next trip in June.  Thank you for your prayers and support, we are encouraged by you and continue to move forward for God!
God bless you all greatly,
Jorge and Elvira Montero

April 2010 Family Crusade:
From April 20th to April 27th, we traveled to the Nuevo San Juan village of the Chambira River.  We must thank God for we were blessed to also have the villagers from Concordia, Ollanta and San Juan join us for 2 days, Sunday and Monday.  We had a guest preacher, Sister Dina Cardenas, which preached from the morning into the night.  After preaching, Sister Cardenas joined Pastora Elvira and I in the rest of our activities.  We fed the participants of the crusade every day (our sister Marieta de Souza prepared the food for all of us and it was delicious). This event was a great satisfaction and joy for us because we saw the hand of God moving in a huge way and we were also able to hear the voice of God talking to us.  Thanks be to God for many people committed their lives to follow Jesus Christ and many families reconciled their faith. Looking around I saw the passion through the tears which were in the people’s eyes, and I knew I felt the presence of God with us.  The devotional day started at 5:00 a.m and ended at 11:00 a.m. Imagine! the Holy Spirit ministering to each person and they did not care about the time!  The most important thing for them was the blessing of God over our lives, families, and ministry.  It was a great time and for that we want to thank to all our dear brothers and sisters who were praying for this trip.  Thanks to the group of "Mission in the Amazon" who supported this trip and allowed us to have the food, gas, and other provisions.  Thanks also to the Bishop Elias Valles for the Cover that always goes with us and this gives us confidence to work and let us to be a blessing wherever we go!
God bless you all greatly,
Jorge and Elvira Montero

April 2010: Easter Weekend

For Easter this year we supported a very small church ‘Berea’ which is near Iquitos.  My family and I set out to explain the importance of the cross and held an evening program in which we showed the film ‘Passion of the Christ.”  Through the experience many people accepted Jesus into their hearts and devoted their lives to him.  It was tremendous to see the response the movie caused.  The next day we met in the morning and I preached the gospel of Christ.  The response of the people was once again wonderful.  The church was very full, with lots of poor families eager to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.  On Sunday morning we met for a time of communion with God, and once again it was wonderful to see so many people devoting their lives to follow and serve Christ for life.  We followed the morning service with a lunch and we are so grateful for the many cooperating guess and their families.  We thank God for your prayers and are always encouraging you to support us with faith, persevering with hope for better times for our ministry.

God bless you all greatly,
Jorge and Elvira Montero

January 2010: Village Children's Outreach Ministry

Hello all of our friends,
Thank you very much for your prayers, they were a great blessing for our trip and we knew the Almighty God was always with us, rewarding us with blessings at all times.  This past Wednesday, January 27th, we returned from our trip to the jungle after 17 days of visiting many towns and encouraging many people throughout the Amazon Rainforest.  We spent our time praying for the sick and many young people accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts!
We left Iquitos on January 10th with my two children Grace and Eliezar and a group of young people from our church of Iquitos, Remenente de Dios.  On our way we into the jungle, we picked up young people from 7 villages, which completed our 35 people ministry and we all traveled by boat with the sole purpose of proclaiming the good news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Our children Grace and Eliezar taught dance to all of the children and it was wonderful seeing all the young people of the Amazon practice for the first time and with great gusto and enthusiasm and then perform for 15 days with the children in the villages as their instrument of evangelism in their villages.
This trip was very special because we traveled on a boat "Eduardo" and traveled 25 hours and from there to our boat "Huey," which transported all of us from San Juan throughout the jungle and then returned home to Iquitos on the boat "Edward."  We thank all who prayed for us, we had some difficulties with our funding and our fuel was exhausted after 13 days, but all the young people still wanted to continue and so we got together to plan for our food and how to get enough gasoline to get home.  It was amazing how we felt God's hand moving in our favor to make His presence felt through the children and reassured us that he was in control of all things.  We are very grateful to the 'Man of the Jungle' Tim and our friend Britt Pamphrey, and we pray that our God will bless you greatly.
Thanks to all our friends who are praying for us, we would appreciate having you in the jungle one day to travel and meet people who work and are apart of our missions, we are always waiting for you!

God bless you all greatly,
Jorge

October 2009

Hello all our friends that always are praying for us, our trip in October was wonderful with its own experiences.
My wife and I traveled to Maypuco on September 30th by barge, We traveled about 45 hours and arrived on October 2nd in the morning there and we were received by the brothers from there and we had a good communion time. The next day (October 3rd) We went to San Antonio village that it takes get in 30 minutes there from Maypuco .
Also, We met with the community from there to celebrate the anniversary of the Cristiana Church and for that  eight of the closest communities  (280 people) were as guests and the Bishop Elias Valles and his wife traveled to this event with two pastors more , they went and preached to all the invited people and it was such a wonderful night, the Bishop prayed for the young people, the families and many people consecrated their lives for follow Jesus , this time took from 7 .00 p.m (night) to  1.00 a.m.(morning)
The next day, We all went back to Maypuco village, where we had a celebration on Sunday 04th , we had  a service in the church in the morning  where the Bishop ministered the people as well. Also, in the same place (Maypuco) during the evening , 10 villages (300 people) went back to meet all together in the church and the Bishop Elias Valles ministered with much unction and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, it was a good time.
On Wednesday 07th , we traveled to Roca Fuerte village that it takes to get there for about  10 hours from Maypuco, and we celebrated the anniversary of the Cristiana Church as well, where 9 villages (300 people) congregated there, the Bishop Elias Valles ministered the young people and the families as well until 12.00 in the night, it was a good time, 10 people accepted Jesuschrist as their personal Savior.
We spent the night in Roca Fuerte village and the next day we returned to Iquitos city with all the missions' group. Thanks God for your prayers and your offerings. We had such a wonderful moment  , as celebrating all together with the brothers of the villages, it was  a spiritual party, we  were always giving  food all the people that were staying  in every place. They were very happy as we were.

Jason Reiswig, 23 years old
Spending 3 months in Peru this past summer...
I experienced a completely different world than that which has surrounded me the past 23 years of my life.  Along with my wife and six other missionaries, we sacrificed our time and traveled down to Peru seeking to satisfy our desires to serve others.  When we first arrived we had no idea what to expect, but Jorge soon made us all feel comfortable as he explained how he treasured each and every one of us for coming down and would take care of us as if we were one of his own.  We hopped on a barge the next day, arrived in Nuevo San Juan late that night, and began our adventure.  The entire summer we helped to prepare for the Congreso through various construction projects, traveled to six different villages in which we painted churches and spent time in fellowship, and finally, were leaders in the Congreso.  It is extremely hard to sum up my experience in a mere paragraph, so I will get down to what really matters.  My time in the Peruvian Amazon spent with Jorge and his Amazonas Misioneras ministry has changed my life forever.  Beyond spending time in a world full of adventure and excitement, I was able to touch lives and in return had them touch mine.  I was a medical helper at the clinic in the Congreso (where we saw over 400 villagers in four days), started IVs for dehydrated villagers throughout the summer, and helped with burn victims and machete wounds that occurred around me.  With being a medical school student, this opportunity was both eye-opening and a blessing.  The most important thing that I feel touched my life, however, was how the Peruvian people let us integrate into their lives and showed me what really matters in this world.  I was able to see people who had such a genuine faith (a faith that I have never experienced before), as well as a mentality rooted in relationships and contentment.  Even though the Peruvian nation is one of the poorest in South America, they were satisfied with putting their lives in God's hands and spending time in fellowship together.  This was the first out-of-the-country mission trip I have been a part of, and I know that I will return the first chance I get.  I always had a stereotype in my mind of what it meant to be a "missionary," but after this experience I know that all it takes is a compassionate and servant heart.  All of my fellow missionaries were just like me, not necessary "holier-than-thou" Christians, just everyday people trying to follow God's plan for their life and putting trust in their faith.  Through this experience, I now have a place in my heart for the Peruvian people and I know that anyone willing to give up just a little of their time will be blessed beyond comprehension.  I believe so strongly in Jorge's ministry, which is why I have agreed to do this website and become the United States liaison for him.  I strongly encourage any of you who are reading this to consider going down to Peru and I know your life will be changed forever!  Feel free to give us your contact information and I'll be more than happy to speak with you about my experience!  God Bless you and your walk with Him!

Becky Hoover, 28 years old
I helped Jorge this summer to prepare for The Congreso which took place in the village of San Juan from August 7-10th. So after much preparation a group of approximately 60 people headed towards San Juan on the barge on August 3rd. This group included my team, Jorge’s family, a large group from his church, from another Peruvian church, and a group from a church in Alabama. We had health care workers, children's ministry workers, music ministry, preachers, teachers, kitchen staff, etc. We arrived in San Juan on August 4th and for the next two days worked at preparing the village for the 1400 people set to arrive the evening of the 6th. I was involved in readying the clinic, helping to set up and prepare supplies for the hundreds of people to whom we would be ministering.

The following four days were a world-wind of activity…and also one of the most amazing experiences ever! There were1400 people from the many different villages that Jorge ministers to arriving in their canoes and boats…some paddling two plus days to get there! The people of San Juan opened up their homes to host the people arriving. Each day three meals of chicken, rice, and potatoes were provided for the people. This is a big deal because they normally do not get rice or chicken and also they normally only get 2 meals per day. There was children's ministry going on each day while the adults were ministered to in the main “Congreso House.” This was the chance for them to be spiritually fed and ministered to through preaching and teaching. While all of this was going on I was working in the clinic each day. We kept busy from morning till the evening session each night seeing patients. We saw God minister to and heal many people. We would assess the patients, give the necessary medications and pray for many of them. We saw a lot of patients with high fevers and saw God touch and heal many of them. I also got to assist with stitching up another machete wound. There were many interesting stories and cases. We also got to minister to many of the staff as a fair amount of them were sick throughout the time…and we would have people coming up to us for assistance 24/7. But it was a blessing to be able to assist those needing a healing touch.
It was wonderful to see the spiritual hunger and renewed dedication of those wanting to press into God and deepen their relationship with Him. Over 200 people were baptized right there in the Chambira River. It was an incredible time of rejoicing! Although we were tired in body from only 4-5 hours of sleep each night, our spirits were encouraged and uplifted at the incredible ways God moved and ministered. It was an experience like none other!
We returned to Iquitos on the 10-11th  of August. My team returned to the US on the 13th and 14th. During my last couple weeks by myself I was stretched in my knowledge of speaking and communicating in Spanish. I also had the opportunity to meet more missionaries in Iquitos and hear about their ministries. Many of them requested that I help them in different aspects with health care teaching when I return in October.  Also, another pastor in the Iquitos area asked if I could assist them in ministry opportunities.  I became friends with another missionary in Nauta which is a village two hours from Iquitos. I hope to be able to assist her also when I return. So I have many exciting opportunities ahead in the next two months.
After my team left, we returned one more time to San Juan to clean up “post Congreso.” To rewind a little, during our second trip to San Juan in July in preparation for The Congreso we had the opportunity to minister and care for a 10 year old boy, Adonias, who had been seriously burned when his mom had accidently spilled hot oatmeal all over his stomach, back, and arm. It had happened on a Friday and we arrived the following Wednesday. He had second and third degree burns which were starting to get infected and probably about 50-60% of his trunk was burned. Praise God we had the necessary medical supplies-bandages, creams, pain medications, and antibiotics to care for him and redress it each day we were there! It was quite serious-had he been in the US he would have been in the hospital for some time. It easily could have led to a serious infection or worse but through prayer and caring for him I am happy to say that when I last saw him in late August he was almost entirely healed-praise God! This led to an even greater testimony.
During this last trip to San Juan I checked up on him and put some cream on the last two affected spots that were still healing. I had noticed that his family never came to church so I invited him to come that Sunday and to bring his family. Then on Sunday morning I went down to see if they were able to come. His mother, Lucy, said they couldn’t come that morning but that they would come to the service Sunday evening. Now, initially Jorge had been thinking of having us leave Sunday afternoon as we were finished cleaning up from the Congreso. We had cleaned the house, moved the benches to store them in the Congreso building, and had painted his new boat. But he came to us Sunday morning and said he thought there was still enough to do that we should wait and leave Monday. So I really felt this ended up being a God thing as Lucy said her family would come to church Sunday evening.
So Sunday evening when I walked down to church they weren’t there. When I went to check on them again Lucy was concerned about having the appropriate attire for church. It ended up that only she came to the service that evening. It was her first time at church since they had lived in San Juan! After the service I asked her if she had a Bible and she said no. So I got a Bible from Jorge and gave it to her. She then asked if we could talk for awhile. I found out that she and her husband had read the Bible some in the past. She had some exposure to church in the past, however that church had required a certain dress code. Since she didn’t have a long skirt she had never even attempted to go to church in San Juan. I explained to her that Jesus was concerned about our heart more than our outward appearance. We had a great time talking about the Bible and the Lord. I was so excited! I explained it was very important that she be reading her Bible and also taking her children to church. She is 26 and has four children-ten, eight, six, and two. So she is going to be reading her Bible and I told her when I got back in October that we would talk more and see how she is doing. I am very excited to follow up with her when I return! I’m also hoping to take a women’s bible study guide along in Spanish that hopefully she and some of the women from the church there can go through!
So these are a few of my experiences and highlights throughout the second portion of my summer. There were so many more stories and exciting times too! Thank you once again for all of your prayers and support throughout the summer! They were definitely felt and appreciated! I stayed healthy throughout most of the summer and I know it was due to your prayers! I have been back in the US for about 6 weeks and will be returning to Peru October 20th for two more months. I would ask that you continue to keep me and Jorge and his family in your prayers. Below I will list some prayer requests to assist you in prayer:

Jorge’s ministry:

~That God would continue to work in and through Jorge’s ministry and guide and direct him.

~For health and safety for him and his family.

~For more US connections. Jorge has an amazing heart and an awesome vision for continued ministry into more unreached villages but not the funds to back it all up. He has the potential and connections to do so much as a native missionary!
